Resident Artist

I began my work as a resident artist while a Theatre Arts undergraduate in Southern California.  During this time I was training in CSUSB's Children's Theatre Certification program.  Shortly after completing this training, I was offered a position as a Resident Artist funded by the California Arts Commission.  This was the catalyst of my life long love of theatre education for youth.   Since then, I have worked as a resident artist in  art magnet, alternative and at-risk schools.  During my graduate program I taught Creative Drama for the Classroom for Humboldt State University and worked with Dell'Arte International - School of Physical Theatre, Education through Art program.  Since moving to Oregon I have continued teaching future educators the benefits of of using drama process in the classroom.  This work is close to my heart for I believe that all children deserve to learn through play and to be valued for their unique contributions to the world.

The benefits of early arts education are numerable and measurable.  In addition to the obvious aesthetic advantages, students learn to manage their energy, work harmoniously and become spatially aware.  Primary teachers are inspired by the results that drama process offers with a direct link to students' academic success.  Especially for young children, creating a space where students feel safe to be themselves is paramount. When utilizing drama process in the classroom students explore through cooperative learning structures and feel safe to evaluate and express ideas with peers.
