Theatre Education

I believe that the arts and the collaborative nature of the creative process are essential to the human experience.  We are creatures of our environment, biological origins with a collective experience - I believe that the arts are what give us a voice, a platform for expression of our deepest emotions, hopes and dreams.

As an arts educator, either as  a Resident Artist in k-12 schools or in higher education, I utilize drama as a process for learning.  Some of my most rewarding experiences have been teaching college students preparing to become teachers in primary schools.  Students enrolled in Creative Drama for the  Classroom practice techniques, develop curriculum based lesson plans and participate in service-learning opportunities in local schools.  Overwhelmingly, these students respond with amazement and enthusiasm over the course content, stating that they had not experienced learning in a creative and fun way and were excited to begin their teaching careers utilizing drama process to teach curriculum.

The drama process I use enables students to become active leaders in the development of their own artistic expression while building self confidence and critical thinking skills.  When a student learns through play the journey they experience becomes a process within itself supporting future learning and further developing collaboration skills.
